IOT Incubator Top Agropreneur

 

UNIMAS continues to make waves in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship as Team UNIMAS secures a place among the Top 15 teams in the IoT Incubator Top Agropreneur 2.0 program. Organized by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), this prestigious initiative aims to nurture agriculture-based startups by integrating Internet of Things (IoT) technology into agribusiness solutions.

The IoT Incubator Top Agropreneur 2.0 program provides a valuable platform for university students to develop and refine their technology-driven agricultural solutions. As part of this initiative, Team UNIMAS participated in an intensive bootcamp and fund handover ceremony on February 23-24, 2025, held at DRB-Hicom Training Centre, Port Dickson. During this two-day event, participants engaged in mentorship sessions, business model refinement, and hands-on workshops aimed at equipping them with the skills necessary to translate their ideas into viable agritech solutions. The highlight of the event was the presentation of RM5000 in funding to each of the Top 15 teams, providing crucial financial support to bring their projects to life.

The selection of Team UNIMAS in the Top 15 underscores the UNIMAS Entrepreneurship Centre’s commitment to fostering technopreneurship and industry-driven startup. By combining IoT technology with agriculture, the team aims to create solutions that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and promote sustainability in the farming sector. This achievement not only highlights the capabilities of UNIMAS students in emerging technologies but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs. It showcases how interdisciplinary collaboration between business and technology can drive impactful solutions for the agriculture industry.

The Next Big Thing

 

The innovation project SmartTrack, developed by two final-year students from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (JKEE), Faculty of Engineering, UNIMAS; Masturah Binti Yaakob and Yusri Bin Husin—has been chosen to join The Next Big Think, a national entrepreneurship bootcamp hosted by Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK). The programme took place from 13 to 15 May 2025 at the H-Elite Design Hotel in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Out of all public and private universities (IPTA/IPTS) and polytechnics, SmartTrack secured a place among the top 30 projects selected to participate. In recognition of their innovative potential, the team received a RM 5,000 grant from the Ministry of Higher Education to support prototype development. The students were mentored throughout the programme by Ir. Ts. Dr. Abdul Rahman Bin Kram, Deputy Director of the UNIMAS Entrepreneurship Centre (UEC).

Future Entrepreneurs in Food Security (FEAST) 2025

 

Two of its students were selected to participate in the prestigious FEAST programme hosted by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). Alongside an accompanying lecturer, they attended the four-day Bootcamp at UMT from 17 to 20 April 2025. In support of their prototype development for the next competition phase, each student was awarded a RM 1,000 grant by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). Participants Mohd Shayfull Malique bin Zohari, Faculty of Engineering (FK) Theristus Daniel Leo, Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FSTS) Ms. Azuriaty Atang, Lecturer, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB).

Usahawan Inovasi Teknousahawan Electric Mobile Vehicle (E-MOVE)

 

On 23-25 July 2025, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) proudly participated in the Usahawan Inovasi Teknousahawan Electric Mobile Vehicle (E-MOVE) programme organised by Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), an initiative promoting sustainable and green mobility solutions. Representing UNIMAS, a team of students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSK); Frankie Liew Chun Kat, Amirah Nabilah, Nur Zahirah Amani binti Mohamad Zaidi, and Hurin Syafiyah binti Mohd Iskandar Bahrin, mentored by Dr. Athirah binti Azhar took part in the programme, showcasing their creativity and commitment to eco-friendly innovation. Their involvement in E-MOVE not only highlighted UNIMAS students’ capabilities in embracing future mobility technologies but also fostered awareness on sustainable transportation among the younger generation.

Digital Innovation Creativepreneur (DICE) 3.0

 

Two student teams from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) proudly represented the university at the Digital Innovation Creativepreneur (DICE) 3.0 competition organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and hosted by Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA). From the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), the HoloChill team led by Anum, with members Angel Bong Xin Tze, Tay Yao Yee, Edwin Wong Kiing En, and Farrysha Qashryna Teh Binti Farrez Teh, mentored by Ts. Dr. Suriati Khartini Binti Jali, won Silver in the AR/VR Category. Meanwhile, from the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA), the TriArte Studio team with their project Lulu’s Adventure, comprising Ericca JC Lawrence, Wu Jue, Abang Adib Fakhri Bin Abang Abu Bakar, and Fidelis Anak Patrick, mentored by Mr. Tang Hung Moi achieved a place in the Top 5 of the Main Award. Their achievements reflect the creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit nurtured through the UNIMAS Entrepreneurship Centre (UEC).
